Founded in 1968, the Gallery Watatu is the most well-established private art gallery in Nairobi. The Gallery serves as a showcase for modern artwork for more than 160 African and afro-nomad (Africa-adopted Europeans) and is a primary reference for both investors and other galleries. Highlights include the largest collection of original work by ES Tingatinga; the gallery’s collection of Lilanga (Makonde-inspired vibrant art); Senoufo, Dioula, Gouro, Baule, Bambara, Dan, and Chokwe masks; and assorted relics and other artifacts. In addition to the permanent collection, there is an assortment of artwork for sale, with prices usually starting at over 200,000 KSH.
